What this means

Trout Beck at Warwick Bridge is running at a record low at 0.00 m.

No reading on record has been lower: the old record low was 0.08 m, from October 24, 2020. The usual range here runs from 0.10 m to 0.50 m.

The level has held steady over the past 24 hours. Without real rain upstream, that is unlikely to change quickly. In the last month it has stayed between −0.02 m and 0.15 m.

Autumn rain usually starts to lift rivers again after the summer low.

Fishing and paddling

At low levels, many rivers become a walk-and-paddle trip. Fish hold in deeper pools and spook easily.

Flood alerts and warnings come from the Environment Agency.

About Trout Beck

Trout Beck

The Trout Beck is a fast flowing stream of the Lake District in North West England. It is one of the main sources of replenishment for Windermere, and is part of the Leven catchment. Its name comes from Old Norse and appears in documents from 1292 as Trutebyk. The river rises between the peaks of Stony Cove Pike and Thornthwaite Crag in the High Street range, at a height of about 1,970 feet (600 m).

How we check values

Each reading is stored as published. We hold back values that jump faster than physically plausible and show the measurement time with every value.
